Sustainability at NMSU
Two students that volunteered at the booth are Alyssa Doublet (left) and Jamie Martinez. We had over 20 students sign up to volunteer to take part in the various ways we are greening NMSU.
Office of Sustainability joins Aggie Fest on August 17, 2011
Aggie Fest, through NMSU Student Services, welcomed back students for the fall 2011 semester. Office of Sustainability participated in the festivities by making solar baked cookies and demonstrated using the sun as renewable FREE! energy. The cookies baked in the same amount of time it takes in a regular oven. We also demonstrated our GEM (Global Electric Motors) vehicle, green cleaning products, and our future bottle filling station that will be located around campus. Lots of other ways to be green were shown such as using CFL's and LED's, recycling, refillable water bottles, and reusable shopping bags. We got 20 new students to sign up on our sustainability volunteer list. Contact newcomer@nmsu.edu if you want to get involved in sustainability at NMSU. See a bin, drop it in!AASHE STARS report almost complete!NMSU is a member of the Association for the Advancement for Sustainability in Higher Education. We are currently doing a report called STARS or Sustainability Tracking Assessment Rating System. It tracks what NMSU is doing to be green in some of the following areas: Operations (landscaping and grounds, recycling, mechanical and energy systems, and dining), Education and Research (co-curriculum, curriculum, and environmental research), and Planning Administration and Engagement (diversity, student services, outreach, sustainable investments). This report and how NMSU rated among other colleges and universities across the country will be available at www.stars.aashe.org soon. Stay tuned or come to the Sustainability Council meetings every second Wednesday at 8:30 AM in Milton Hall Rm. 85 for updates on green happenings at NMSU! Check out the Event's Facebook Page |
