Grants Community College Sustainability

  • Installed four bottle fillings stations that have kept approximately 8000 plastic bottles from the landfill
  • Three of the buildings were remodeled in 2011 to be more sustainable and save energy by adding 6” of insulation, high R-value (thermal) windows, and upgrading lighting
  • Recycle plastic and paper fiber; aluminum, copper, brass, and iron go into "laydown" yard to be recycled or re-used
  • Four new LED exterior lights on maintenance garage;  parking lot lights are on timers
  • Motion and infrared  lighting sensors in classrooms; dimmable T8's in Title 5 STEM lab
  • Vehicle fleet reduced from eleven to six, with two being hybrids
  • New high-efficiency aluminum boilers in Martinez Hall
  • Recycled old roofing from McClure Hall and then reused the material in walls for insulation
  • Replacing old T12 fluorescent lamps with T8's and CFL's throughout campus
